BREAKING NEWS - Inside look at Red Sox homestand

My NFL Picks - Week 4

Will they stand? Will they kneel? Will they stay in the locker room?

The National Anthem protest and the feud vs. President Trump continues in the NFL and with some teams, including the Broncos and Patriots reportedly going to stand this week, it should be interesting. FOX has already said they will NOT show the Anthem this week. So, stay tuned since the Wild Card is no one EVER knows what the President will say or tweet next.

TNF - Packers over the Bears (already played)

Now, to the picks.

Saints vs. Dolphins (Sunday 9:30am in London)
Somehow, the Saints routed the Panthers in Carolina while the Dolphins laid an egg against the hapless Jets. So, you what will happen this week, right?
Winner: Dolphins

Panthers at Patriots (Sunday 1pm)
The Patriots offense remains hot averaging almost 35 points a game. The question, of course, is what the defense can do. Deshaun Watson ran roughshod over them last Sunday. So, what can a strugglling Cam Newton do in Foxboro? That answer will decide the game. Getting Dont'a Hightower back will help.
Winner: Patriots

Bills at Falcons (Sunday 1pm)
The Falcons are two first and goals away from being 1-2. But, like they say, good teams find a way and find some luck sometimes.
Winner: Falcons

Steelers at Ravens (Sunday 1pm)
Who could figure out Baltimore's stinker in London. Absolute no-show! And speaking of no-shows, has anyone see Le'Veon Bell yet?
Winner: Ravens

Bengals at Browns (Sunday 1pm)
Battle of Ohio. Home team wins the coin flip.
Winner: Browns

Rams at Cowboys (Sunday 1pm)
Are the Rams for real scoring 41 points against SF? Probably not. What is for real is the Cowboys getting back to Ezekiel Elliot pounding the rock Monday night winning in Arizona. Doesn't hurt that the training wheels are coming off Dak Prescott either.
Winner: Cowboys

Titans at Texans (Sunday 1pm)
Color me a Deshaun Watson fan. Kid's got that "IT" factor. Plus, off the field, Watson gave his first NFL game check to a pair of women from Houston who lost everything in Hurricane Harvey. Respect!
Winner: Texans

Lions at Vikings (Sunday 1pm)
If Sam Bradford isn't careful, Case Keenum could still his gig. BTW: where is Teddy Bridgewater?
Winner: Vikings

Jaguars at Jets (Sunday 1pm)
Let's be serious. Can either team really put together two stellar outings in back-to-back weeks?
Winner: Jaguars

49ers at Cardinals (Sunday 4:05pm)
If it wasn't for the 49ers, there's no way I would be picking the Cardinals. They looked disastrous with their decision making and offensive line play Monday night.
Winner: Cardinals

Eagles at Chargers (Sunday 4:05pm)
What way will the Chargers figure out how to lose this week?
Winner: Eagles

Giants at Bucs (Sunday 4:05pm)
Tampa Bay gets a nifty two-games in five days homestand with the G-Men and the Patriots on TNF.  The first half looks a little easier than the back end.
Winner: Bucs

Raiders at  Broncos (Sunday 4:25pm)
Rebound week for both after both teams looked sluggish in road losses to Washington and Buffalo respectively. For whatever reason, Oakland likes to play in Denver. But, is Michael Crabtree healthy to go and be effective?
Winner: Broncos

Colts at Seahawks (Sunday 8:30pm)
Get those stories ready Al and Cris!
Winner: Seahawks

Redskins at Chiefs (Monday 8:30pm)
Good match-up to end week 4. KC clearly the toast at the top of the NFL right way.
Winner: Chiefs

What should the Red Sox playoff roster look like?

What to do with the Red Sox playoff roster?

Yes, we are, for the purpose of this discussion, assume that the Red Sox make the American League playoffs.  As of Wednesday, September 13, Boston stands 4 games up on the Yankees in the American League.

So, let's break down the 25-man roster.

No-brainers (21)
Starting Pitchers (4): Chris Sale, Drew Pomeranz, Doug Fister, Rick Porcello

Relief Pitchers (6): Craig Kimbrel, Addison Reed, Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, Robbie Scott, Brandon Workman

Catchers (2): Sandy Leon, Christian Vazquez

Infielders (5): Mitch Moreland, Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Eduardo Nunez

Outfielders (3) : Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr, Mookie Betts

DH (1) : Hanley Ramirez

On-the-fence (7):
Starting Pitchers (1): Eduardo Rodriguez

Relief Pitchers (3): Carson Smith, Heath Embree, Fernando Abad

Infielders (1): Brock Holt

Outfielders (2): Chris Young, Rajai Davis

Injured (1)- possible return:

Pitcher (1) - David Price

Price is a wild-card who could fill a bullpen slot, especially given that he's a lefty and the pen is right-heavy.  Injury and durability could also be said of Carson Smith, who if completely healthy, would be a nice addition after a pair of clean appearances in the past week.

Davis probably gets a spot for speed while Young, despite troubles hitting lefties in the regular season, is a Manager John (Farrell) woobie, so he should make the roster.

So, who makes it? Here's my final 25 (which will probably differ from manager John's):

Starting Pitchers (4): Chris Sale, Drew Pomeranz, Doug Fister, Rick Porcello

Relief Pitchers (8): Craig Kimbrel, Addison Reed, Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, Robbie Scott, Brandon Workman, David Price (Eduardo Rodriguez if Price is injured still), Carson Smith

Catchers (2): Sandy Leon, Christian Vazquez

Infielders (5): Mitch Moreland, Dustin Pedroia, Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, Eduardo Nunez, Brock Holt

Outfielders (4) : Andrew Benintendi, Jackie Bradley Jr, Mookie Betts, Rajai Davis

DH (1) : Hanley Ramirez

Me thinks that manager John goes with Chris Young on his roster, which could cost Davis or Holt a spot or a 12th pitcher.

What say you?
