Bergen Record's Tara Sullivan barred from Masters Lockerroom

A few thoughts after learning that The Masters has barred Bergen Record columnist Tara Sullivan from the lockerroom after Sunday's final round:

One, clearly, The Masters is out of their minds trying to ban a well known and professional female reporter like Tara Sullivan from doing her job in this day and age. But, if there was one place that would do it, it would be Augusta. After all, they ban women from playing there and being members, they dictate their TV coverage and they been woeful at best in dealing with race issues.

Two, they'll come off as idiots for this decision. And to be honest, they don't care. It's their show and they'll do with it what they want.

Three, nothing will change at Augusta until the players take a stand. Without them, there's no tournament. So that's where the real change will begin. Sure, the media could boycott, but it won't because SOMEONE would cover it, you know it.

Finally, why in 2011 are we still having the media go into a lockerroom? Why can't the press just let the players come out to a press area, completely dressed and not in a place that should be their own. I've been in far too many lockerrooms in the past in my days as a tv, print, radio and web reporter. Believe me, it's no fun for anyone, male or female, media or player/coach. It's just part of the gig. Part of the gig that could be avoided entirely.
