A couple of releases from FOX Sports including news that White Sox outspoken manager Ozzie Guillen will head to the booth for the World Series. That'll be fun!
CHICAGO WHITE SOX MANAGER OZZIE GUILLEN JOINS FOX SPORTS FOR 2009 WORLD SERIES
Charismatic & Entertaining 2005 World Champion Manager Serves As Pre- & Postgame Analyst
Also Contributes Exclusive Analysis to FOXSports.com & FOX Sports En Español World Series Telecasts
New York & Los Angeles – Ozzie Guillen has been called many things. Honest, outspoken, intense, insightful, entertaining, amusing, controversial, passionate and a World Champion, but never boring. Now you can add major network television analyst to that list as the fiery Chicago White Sox manager joins FOX Sports as a pregame and postgame analyst for the network’s coverage of the 2009 Fall Classic. The announcement was made today by Ed Goren, President and Executive Producer of FOX Sports.
In addition to his role on FOX Sports, Guillen will also provide exclusive analysis and content for FOXSports.com and appear on FOX Sports En Español World Series coverage.
The straight-shooting Guillen, who guided the White Sox to a 2005 World Championship, joins host Chris Rose and fellow analysts Mark Grace and Eric Karros live on-site for every World Series broadcast on FOX. FOX Sports coverage of Game 1 is set for Wednesday, Oct. 25 at this year’s new, earlier 7:30 PM ET start time.
“In addition to being one of game’s best managers, Ozzie Guillen has one of the most electric and charismatic personalities in baseball, which is exactly why we are thrilled to add him to our World Series broadcasts,” said Goren. “You never know what you are going to hear from Ozzie and given his tremendous love and enthusiasm for this game, I think viewers are going to really enjoy his candid opinions each and every night. Ozzie Guillen live should be great television.”
Guillen’s engaging personality, honesty and candor have made him a popular media figure both in Chicago and nationally. His previous MLB television experience was as an analyst for the Hispanic television broadcast of the 1992 MLB All-Star Game in San Diego.
“I am looking forward to joining the FOX team for the World Series,” Guillen said. “Although I would be even happier to be in the dugout managing these games, nothing beats a World Series atmosphere, and I’m excited to provide FOX viewers with a Major League manager’s perspective of the games.”
Following his 16-year playing career that stretched from 1985 through 2000, Guillen served as a coach for the Montreal Expos (2001-2002) and third-base coach for the Florida Marlins in 2003, where he won his first World Series ring. He was named the 37th manager in Chicago White Sox history on November 3, 2003 and in 2005, guided the team to their first American League Pennant since 1959 and their first World Series title in 88 years with a four-game sweep of the Houston Astros. He is the first Latin-born manager in the history of the game to have won a World Series. Guillen is also the only manager in White Sox history to guide the team to more than one division/league title and was named the 2005 American League Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Guillen managed the 2006 AL All-Star team to a 3-2 victory and has an overall career managerial record of 512-461.
Guillen is a member of the select group of quick-handed shortstops that emerged from Venezuela, a group that includes Chico Carrasquel, Luis Aparicio, Dave Concepcion and Omar Vizquel. Guillen made his Major League debut with the White Sox on April 9, 1985 and played for the team through the 1997 season. He also played for the Baltimore Orioles (1998), Atlanta Braves (1998-1999), and finished his career with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2000. Guillen was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1985, was a three-time All-Star (1988, 1990 & 1991) and won the Gold Glove Award in 1990. He played in one postseason in 1993 against the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS. He batted .264 with 28 home runs and 619 RBI’s during his 16-year playing career.
Born January 20, 1964 in Ocumare Del Tuy, Venezuela where he makes his permanent residence, Guillen is married to Ibis Cardenas. The couple has three children: Oswaldo Jr., Oney (drafted by the White Sox as an infielder in 2007) and Ozney. Son Ozzie Jr. serves as the lead broadcaster on White Sox Spanish-language radio broadcasts.

The prime-time portion of last night’s game averaged a 6.9/11, good enough to make it FOX’s highest-rated Tuesday night since the MLB All-Star Game in July. The first four games of the 2009 Yankees-Angels ALCS is averaging a 5.6/11 (8.8 mill.), a +19% gain over last year’s NLCS on FOX (4.7/8), and first three night games delivered FOX’s highest-rated Friday and Saturday in ten months, and now its highest-rated Tuesday in three months.
