URI climbs up the RPI - good losses for Rams and Friars

If you're like me and hoping to get the URI Rams into the Big Dance, there's good news this morning. The latest RPI has URI climbing into the Top 50. The Rams are at #48 this morning while the strength of schedule is at 118, which is hurting Rhody. The Rams close out the regular season against UMass on Saturday.

As for Providence College, a win tonight at Villanova would do wonders for them on their quest for the NCAA Tournament. Kevin McNamara of the ProJo has your preview. As for the RPI, the Friars remain unchanged at 69 and a SOS of 51.

The good news is that there were some upsets last night. Kentucky lost at home to Georgia, the last place team in the SEC. Meanwhile, Miami did themselves no good losing to Georgia Tech. Florida also lost to Mississippi State.

Boston College lost as well, but they're a lock for the tourney. Northwestern did beat Purdue so they are someone to watch out for as well.

Clearly, losses by Georgetown and Cincinnati earlier this week to St.John's and South Florida harm their NCAA chances, but at the same time, hurts the RPI. Right now, the Friars are still looking at trying to win one at the Big East Tournament in order to lock up a bid to the tournament. That is of course, barring a win tonight. They beat Nova tonight and they're in!
