Thanks for agreeing to the trade that turned the Boston Red Sox franchise around. Thanks for the guttiest performance we've ever seen in sports with the "Bloody Sock" epic in game 6 of the ALCS against the Yankees in 2004. Thanks for being you.
Whether you like him or not because of his willingness to spout his opinion on any subject under the sun, you have to recognize just what he did for Red Sox fans.
He didn't have to agree to a trade to Boston. He could've easily accepted a deal to the Yankees or Phillies and not accepted the great burden he put on his shoulders to deliver a World Championship to Fenway Park. But he did.
He didn't have to sign onto the Red Sox message boards to talk directly to Red Sox Nation to find out exactly what it was all about. But he did.
He didn't have to have a very crude procedure to sew his tendon together so that he could simply get on mound to face the Yankees with the season on the line in Yankee Stadium. But he did.

He didn't have to gut it out and give us every chance to beat the Yankees. But he did.
He didn't have to follow that up by taking the mound in the World Series against the Cardinals. But he did.
He didn't have to be a mentor to the bevy of young studs in the Red Sox organization to help their maturation process. But he did.
He didn't have to do all that while proclaiming his love for the Red Sox and Red Sox nation. But he did.
And for that. We say a simple thanks. For without you Curt, this could've turned out a whole lot different. Your next stop (after many media appearances of course!) is Cooperstown. Yes, 216 regular season wins over 23 years is marginal, but you add in the fact that you were the most dominant postseason pitcher of our lifetime (11-2, 2.23 ERA) and you should be a lock to get in.
Enjoy the tribute from You Tube -
Thank you and good luck, Curt!
