A Weather Legend in Southern New England is turning in his meterological magic after 43 years as John Ghiorse retires after 43 years on air. His last day will be Friday, according to the Projo.
I grew up watching Ghiorse's forecasts on WJAR, the NBC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island, hoping each winter day for a snow day. Ghiorse left for a big-time contract when WLNE came calling in 1983 in an attempt to grab ratings. It failed and Ghiorse eventually went back to his old stomping grounds at WJAR.
Check out some great old footage and a tribute to John on channel 10's website.
The Ghiorse Factor, a staple of all his forecasts grading the day on a 1-to-10 basis each day, on his career is a 10 and a daily look at what the weather will be look will be missed.
