Breaking News - Radio Legend Paul Harvey dead at age 90

Breaking news from the radio world as legendary radio host Paul Harvey has passed away at age 90, according to his website.

Harvey had been working in radio since his high school days in 1933 and nationally on the ABC Radio Networks since 1951 with his famous national commentaries.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Here's a statement from Jim Robinson, President of the ABC Radio Networks -

Paul Harvey was one of the most gifted and beloved broadcasters in our nation's history. As he delivered the news each day with his own unique style and commentary, his voice became a trusted friend in American households. His career in radio spanned more than seven decades, during which time countless millions of listeners were both informed and entertained by his "News & Comment" and "Rest of the Story" features. Even after the passing of his loving wife Angel in May 2008, Paul would not slip quietly into retirement as he continued to take the microphone and reach out to his audience. We will miss our dear friend tremendously and are grateful for the many years we were so fortunate to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are now with his son Paul Jr. and the rest of the Harvey family.

Jim Robinson
President, ABC Radio Networks

And as Paul would always say, "and now you know the rest....of the...story."

Update on the Cassel deal; Cutler almost part of the deal

Here's what the Patriots got in the Matt Cassel
Mike Reiss from the Boston Globe breaks it down for you Pats fans.

I too, much like alot of fans, thought it was alot to give up just for a second round pick, but you never know what the true market value was behind the scenes.
Of course, they could just turn the pick around to Carolina for Julius Peppers and then Pats fans would be smiling about the deal!

Gotta love the whole Jay Cutler, three-team deal part to this deal huh?! Adam Schefter of the NFL Network has the details on how Cutler almost ended up in Detroit or Tampa Bay as part of a Cassel deal.

BREAKING NEWS: Cassel to Chiefs

As we speculated on Friday, the Chiefs and Patriots deal with Mike Vrabel has expanded to include Pats QB Matt Cassel. Adam Schefter of the NFL Network and the Boston Globe has confirmed a deal is in place.

More later on what the NFL Network calls a "fluid" situation.

The Rock back on SNL

Finally, the Rock...oops, I mean Dwayne Johnson...has come back to Saturday Night Live. It'll happen next Saturday night on NBC!

Do you remember this, back in 2000?

Thanks to NBC, SNL and You Tube for the clip!

ESPN College Gameday - Mock NCAA Selection

It's hilarious as I'm watching ESPN's College Gameday this morning as Hubert Davis, Digger Phelps, Bobby Knight and Jay Bilas decide which of the following four teams should be in the NCAA Tournament - Siena, Providence, Michigan and Virginia Tech.

Getting Siena out is easy, they haven't beaten anybody. But knocking Providence out in the 2nd round is a joke. Michigan hasn't beaten anyone since Duke and UCLA early in the season. Granted, good wins, but the Wolverines are just 18-11 in the Big 10 that isn't nearly as good as the Big East. Providence already has 17 wins and will get the 18th Sunday at Rutgers while going over .500 in the toughest conference in the sport. And, oh yeah, did I forget that they just whooped Pitt's ass when they came into the Dunk as the #1 team in the country!

OK, I feel better. And I'm not even a Friars fan. I'm a URI Rams fan as an alumnus of Kingston.

Oh yeah, they picked Virginia Tech as the team to go dancing!

Jets/Eagles Trade: Lito Sheppard going to NY

According to the NFL Network's Adam Schefter, the Jets and Eagles have agreed on a deal to send disgruntled cornerback Lito Sheppard to NY for a pair of draft picks (a fifth round in this year's draft and a conditional pick in the 2010 draft).

Sheppard will get a physical this weekend to complete the deal.

Not a bad day for the Jets so far as they get Bart Scott, Lito Sheppard and will have visists from a pair of Ravens secondary backs - Corey Ivy and Jim Leonhard over the weekend.

Bart Scott picks Jets; Vilma stays a Saint; Gaffney and Hill to Denver

More NFL Free Agency news - reports that Bart Scott will indeed be a Jet. Scott's new deal, after almost going back to Baltimore, is now at six-years and $48 million. So, essentially, Scott put an extra year on the deal at $8 million.

Another blow to Baltimore has Jason Brown heading to St.Louis, according to the Post-Dispatch. The good news is that they now have enough money to keep Ray Lewis.

Brian Dawkins is now a Bronco. So says the SF Chronicle. The NFL Network's Adam Schefter says that Jabar Gaffney and Renaldo Hill will join him there.

Also, the Saints have re-signed former Jets LB Jonathan Vilma, according to

I still find it odd that there's no news about WR Laveraneus Coles and the Dolphins. Coles reportedly was in Buffalo today but you would think he would easily visit the Fins after giving back his guaranteed $6 million from the Jets to be set free.

Tom Curran: Pats/Chiefs deal bigger than just Vrabel?

Musing on NBC, Tom Curran says the Mike Vrabel deal to KC might also involve Matt Cassel and the #3 overall pick.

It's what we all thought right from the get-go because it makes all too much sense, right?!

Bart Scott is jerking the Jets and Ravens around

News from the Baltimore Sun tells us that Bart Scott has a five year, $42 million offer from the Ravens now and is deciding between the Ravens and Jets.

This comes after Scott had agreed in principle to join the Jets on a five-year, $40 million deal this morning.

Paxton to Broncos

In all the hub about Mike Vrabel, I forgot to post the fact that Lonnie Paxton is joining Josh McDaniels in Denver. He gets $5 million over five-years with a $1 million bonus according to the Boston Globe.

Pats trade Mike Vrabel to KC

In news that will make my buddy Johnny Sun Chips happy, the Patriots have traded Mike Vrabel to Kansas City today. The NFL Network's Adam Schefter had it first, saying that Vrabel is on his way to KC to take a physical. The Boston Globe has since confirmed the deal with Vrabel.

Vrabel's a class act who was always honest with the fans and the media. A stellar eight-year run, winning three Super Bowls here in Foxboro ends after signing as a free agent from Pittsburgh will forever be held in Pats' fans hearts.

Now that Scott Pioli and Bill Belichick have made bedfellows for this trade, could a Cassel deal be near?

Stay tuned!

Pats add Chris Baker

More signings in the NFL as we get news from the NFL Network's Adam Schefter and his awesome blog -

* - The Pats have not only added Fred Taylor as Shalise Manza-Young from the Projo told us earlier, but have also signed former Jets TE Chris Baker.

* - Eugene Wilson remains in Houston.

* - Bart Scott and Corey Ivy will move to NY along with new Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Schefter also says Ray Lewis could be gone from Baltimore as well.

More later.

Friday Feel-Good: TNA Wrestling's Best Assets

OK, I'll admit, I'm a WWE sports entertainment snob! I don't watch much of TNA Wrestling, but last night I did catch a little of TNA: Impact on Spike TV. It wasn't horrible, but then again it wasn't that good either. One thing that does stand out though is the Knockouts. Or should I say, some of the Knockouts.

Here we get Traci Brooks and SoCal Val from their photo shoot for TNA If this doesn't make you feel good on this friday, nothing will.

NFL Free Agency Begins - Tom & Gisele get married

Oh boy, it's been a busy few hours since NFL Free Agency began this morning at 12:01am. But before we get to the news on that, we have news from US Magazine that Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen got married Thursday in California. Nice to see that his son, J-E-T was there as were Gisele's dogs.

Now onto the news -

* - Fred Taylor signs with the Pats according to the Projo and Adam Shefter of the NFL Network.

* - Albert Haynesworth signs with the Redskins to the tune of 7-years and $100 million. No recession there, huh! (ESPN) The Skins also resign DeAngelo Hall.

* - Bart Scott could be signing with the Jets today (Sporting News).

* - The Pats and Panthers could be working on a Cassel-Peppers deal (Fox

* - Correll Buckhalter goes from Philly to Denver to join the Broncos (Fox

Nascar on FOX - News for Las Vegas this weekend

Get ready for the weekend gearheads! Here's your preview of this Sunday's race from Las Vegas from our friends at Fox Sports -

NASCAR on FOX Goes All-In With Sprint Cup Racing From Las Vegas

Digger Learns Love Is No Picnic on “The Adventures of Digger & Friends”

– Fresh off victories at Daytona and Fontana, the 2009 season couldn’t have started more positively for Matt Kenseth. This Sunday, March 1 at 3:30 PM ET, FOX Sports covers Kenseth’s quest to make it three-of-a-kind when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series rolls into Las Vegas. Prerace host Chris Myers along with analysts Jeff Hammond and Darrell Waltrip bring fans all the news and features from the Hollywood Hotel, FOX Sports’ traveling prerace set. Once the green flag drops, race announcer Mike Joy will be alongside Waltrip and Larry McReynolds to call all the twists and turns on the track while Dick Berggren, Steve Byrnes, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum patrol the pits for up-to-the-second reports on teams and pit stops.

DIGGER LEARNS LOVE IS NO PICNIC ON SUNDAY’S INSTALLMENT OF “THE ADVENTURES OF DIGGER & FRIENDS” – As NASCAR on FOX rolls into Las Vegas Motor Speedway, so does a fresh episode of THE ADVENTURES OF DIGGER & FRIENDS. In the third installment, “Picnic Trick”, Digger’s girlfriend Annie accuses him of watching too much NASCAR and not spending enough time with her. In an effort to make it up to her, Digger comes up with the perfect plan – a romantic picnic on the infield during the race! But when his loving gesture looks to be ruined by a visit from Lumpy Wheels, can Digger and Annie work together to save themselves and their romantic day?! Tune in Sunday to NASCAR on FOX’s prerace (3:30 PM ET) to find out.

‘KILLER BEES’ KEY TO KENSETH’S FAST START – After going 2 for 2, the voice of NASCAR and FOX Sports’ race announcer, Mike Joy, explains Matt Kenseth’s early success: “What makes Matt Kenseth so good? Well, he didn’t have the fastest car in California. At various times in the race that was either Jeff Gordon or Greg Biffle. What he does have is the best crew on pit road, known as the Killer Bees. It goes all the way back to the days when Kenseth first joined the Rousch Team at the Sprint Cup level with crew chief, former adversary Robbie Riser. Riser’s crew, ripped off world class pit stops and this year, they’re doing it again. You can believe that teams are studying whatever video they can get of Kenseth’s pit crew to find out why they’re so fast.”

For video and additional commentary from Mike Joy along with a webcast of what NASCAR on FOX analyst Jeff Hammond thinks of Jeff Gordon’s chances this weekend in Las Vegas, visit:

NASCAR ON FOX FROM FONTANA IS WEEK’S HIGHEST-RATED MOST-WATCHED SPORTS EVENT – FOX Sports’ coverage of the AUTOCLUB 500 Presented by Quaker State on Sunday evening (2/22) was the top-rated, most-watched sports event of the week. According to Nielsen Media Research, the race posted a 6.0/10 national household rating/share, with 10.2 million viewers watching, by far the highest-rated and most-watched sports event of the week. Sunday’s AUTOCLUB 500 coverage also fared well opposite expected stiff competition from the Academy Awards. FOX’s 5.9/9 prime time household average on Sunday fared +28% better than FOX's recent performance versus the Oscars (4.6 average from 2004 to 2007), and +13% better among adults 18-49 (3.6 vs. 3.2). Last year’s NASCAR race opposite the Academy Awards show was delayed by rain and pre-empted the planned prime time lineup, so it was excluded from this comparison.

Whither the plight of WEEI; No high for the Rocky Mountain News - final edition Friday; Tiger ousted at WGC Match Play

I'm still getting it all back together after the most bizarre doctor's visit in my lifetime today, but still have enough where-with-all to get you some more stuff to chew on for this Thursday night -

Chad Finn of Boston Magazine decides now is the time to educate those in charge at WEEI in Boston on how to run its station. Chad, get a clue! Whether you like them or not, they are the 800lb. gorilla in the room and very successful at it. I get it that Chad doesn't like how they deliver their product, but then again not everyone does. That's an individual taste. However, you can't knock them for how good they've been for almost 20 years in dominating the New England sports radio scene. After all, I should know, they knocked me out of job at the Score. So, I know of what I speak. Our buddy Bruce Allen has more thoughts as well on the great Boston Sports Media Watch site today.

Speaking of the Boston Sports Media Watch, good friend Bob Ekstrom has the weekly look at what's up in New England sports in the blogosphere, including a detailed look into the Red Sox in spring training. And oh yeah, thanks again to Bob for letting everyone know how we feel about the PC win over #1 Pitt this week.

Tonight at 12:01am (or is that this morning at 12:01am?), the cash cow known as NFL Free Agency starts up. Pro Football has you covered all night (and morning) long. Rotoworld is also a good one to keep tabs on tonight.

Among the days top stories so far, Tiger Woods is out at the WGC Match Play Championships and somewhere the folks at NBC are crying; Michael Vick is going home and A-Rod is still an idiot after letting his cousin (yes, that cousin) pick him after a Yankees win Thursday (FOX

The Rocky Mountain News is no more after folding and will publish its final edition on Friday after 150 years in circulation. Another victim of these terrible times.

Back with more later!

Grey's Anatomy 's night off and Taylor Swiff's CSI:

Sorry about delivering the news to you, but "Grey's Anatomy" is a repeat tonight on ABC (9pm, ET).

If you missed it the first time, Meredith's dear friend Sadie comes to Seattle Grace and finds it a little frigid.

Unfortunately, CSI: is still Grissom-less, but I guess it will have to do. I'm not getting into the whole Laurence Fishburne "everything's about me even though I'm a level 1" editions of CSI: lately. At least Taylor Swift is coming next and courtesy of CBS, we get a sneak peek with her -

MLB Network - 2 New Documentaries

From the MLB Network, where I'm watching the 9th inning of the Giants/Indians right now -

“Josh Hamilton: Resurrecting the Dream” and “We Are Young: A Baseball Family” Chronicle Compelling Comeback Stories Featuring MLB Players Josh Hamilton and Dmitri and Delmon Young

Secaucus, N.J. – MLB Network today announced it will broadcast two original documentaries created by MLB Productions, both telling compelling comeback stories involving current MLB players. This Friday, February 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET, MLB Network will air Josh Hamilton: Resurrecting the Dream, a one-hour documentary on Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton – which takes an insider’s look into Hamilton’s journey back into baseball. On Monday, March 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET, MLB Network will debut the first-ever original film from MLB Productions, We Are Young: A Baseball Family, the story of MLB players and brothers Dmitri and Delmon Young, who overcame personal struggles to persevere in the Major Leagues.

Josh Hamilton: Resurrecting the Dream recounts Hamilton’s journey both in his own words and for the first time, from the perspectives of his family members and close friends. The program marks the first documentary ever produced on Hamilton, and takes a comprehensive look into Hamilton’s substance-induced breakdown, personal recovery and eventual climb to become one of the top hitters in the American League. Personal passages from his autobiography are read by Hamilton himself to further contextualize his journey.

We Are Young: A Baseball Family, the first-ever original film by MLB Productions, chronicles a seven-year period of MLB players and brothers Dmitri and Delmon Young, and their demanding father, Larry, who helped guide them into the Major Leagues. The film documents Dmitri, currently on the Washington Nationals, who makes the All-Star team in 2003, watches with joy as his brother is selected as the number one pick in the Draft that same year, but then begins to battle alcoholism and is released by the Detroit Tigers in 2005. Soon after, Dmitri comes close to death due to an undiagnosed case of diabetes, and then bounces back to make the All-Star team in 2007 and become the National League’s 2007 Comeback Player of the Year. We Are Young: A Baseball Family also chronicles the controversy that has surrounded Delmon—the first overall pick in the 2003 Major League Baseball Draft—ever since his 50-game suspension for flipping a bat in at an umpire during a Minor League game. Delmon would learn a valuable lesson, and eventually is called up to the Major Leagues in the fall of 2005, where he would make an immediate impact with Tampa. After finishing second in the American League Rookie of the Year honors the next season, Delmon was traded to the Twins. Monday will mark the television debut for the 96-minute film, which was selected for inclusion in the first annual U.S. Sports Film Festival, held in Philadelphia last October.

“The documentaries are intimate looks of the roads these players took to make it in the Major Leagues,” said Tony Petitti, President and CEO of MLB Network. “MLB Network continues to be pleased that we can be an outlet for the outstanding work done by MLB Productions.”

“We are extremely grateful to the players involved and their families for giving MLB Productions unprecedented access into their lives,” said David Gavant, Executive in charge of Production and Vice President, MLB Productions. “These documentaries present a behind-the-scenes look at these players, helping us to understand the challenging journeys they have taken.”

Projo to cut 100 jobs

More sad news for the media industry as the Providence Journal will cut 100 jobs as its parent company, A.H. Belo cuts 500 employees across the country.

Providence Business News has the breakdown of 18 news and 34 advertising positions that are part of the cutbacks.

The cuts are to take place by March 6 leaving the Projo, which has already been hurt by previous layoffs, in a sorry state as the state's biggest newspaper.

Oops - Olberman, Matthews and MSNBC put their foot in their mouths again!

MSNBC's Keith Olbermann and most of the folks on the network are devout supporters of President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party. This much we already know. But why MSNBC and thus NBC News continue to keep them on the air when they continue to be unfair and biased with comments like this from last night is beyond me. As Keith Olbermann are getting ready for the Republican Response to President Obama's speech to Congress by Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, you hear an "Oh God" uttered by either Olbermann or another host or producer. It sounds like Olbermann. Watch it for yourself -

Oh, God indeed! Keep your personal politics off the air or keep the announcers who can't do taht off the air, please!

Put that win together with one over Syracuse and a pair over Cincinnati while going over .500 in the Big East (yes, I'm putting a win over Rutgers and a loss to Villanova in there to go 10-8) and 18 victories overall and that should put you in. Your RPI is 77 and schedule strength is 50, as of February 24 and that will help your cause.

Way to go Keno Davis! After a dismal defensive peformance against Notre Dame on Saturday, you got the troops rallied up on Senior Night and got them to play just enough "D" to hold off a very good Panthers team. Great penetration early on set the tone as the big guys showed up from the get-go! Sharaud Curry (15), Weyinmi Efejuku (16), Jonathan Kale (13), Randall Hanke (10) and Geoff McDermott (11) deserve a ton of credit in this one as they honor eight seniors in their final home game.

Truly a memorable moment at the Dunk! It's a shame that there's no sportsradio station talking about it in-depth in Providence. But anyway, that's another story for another day. Ironically enough, watching the game on SNY, we got the glowing insights of former PC head coach Tim Welsh, wishing his old school congratulations throughout this one as he did the pregame, halftime and postgame for SNY.

Now, if only the URI Rams can knock off Dayton on Wednesday night, we can keep the dream alive of two teams from Little Rhody in the Big Dance!

Marbury to Celtics

The saga known as Stephon Marbury in New York is finally over. The Knicks and the troubled guard have agreed to a buyout and the Knicks will waive Marbury. WCVB-TV in Boston is reporting that the Celtics will sign him after he does clear waivers.

Now, let's see if the Big Three can keep Steph's head on straight and not screw up the Celtics chance of a repeat championship!

Wrestlemania 26 coming to Arizona!

We haven't even made it to Wrestlemania 25 yet in Houston, but we get news today for where Wrestlemania 26 will be in 2010.

Glendale, Arizona will host the WWE's prized PPV event at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday, March 28, 2010.

Let the road begin!

Nascar on Fox ratings for AutoClub 500

Ratings from FOX Sports -

Race Ranks with Top-Rated Prime Time Shows

New York --
FOX Sports’ coverage of the AUTOCLUB 500 Presented by Quaker State on Sunday evening (2/22) was the top-rated, most-watched sports event of the week and was one of the highest-rated prime time programs among several popular demographic categories, including adults 18-49.

According to Nielsen Media Research, the race posted a 6.0/10 national household rating/share, with 10.2 million viewers watching, by far the highest-rated and most-watched sports event of the week. Placing a distant second was Sunday’s final round of the Northern Trust Open on CBS (3.7/7, 4.8 million viewers).

Out of 80 prime time programs televised on the four major broadcast networks last week, the AUTOCLUB 500 on FOX placed fifth among men 25-54 (5.8), seventh among men 18-49 (4.4) and 14th in the important adults18-49 category (3.7). Among men 25-54, the AUTOCLUB 500 beat well-known shows such as Lost and Two-and-a-Half Men; among men 18-49, the race out-distanced Heroes and Survivor: Tocantins; and among adults 18-49 the race out-rated Biggest Loser and Criminal Minds.

The 2009 Academy Awards on ABC averaged a 20.6/36.

NBC on Tiger's return to the PGA Tour

I was going to put this up on Monday, but lo and behold, we didn't get it until today so we give it to you now. Here, we get the NBC Sports crew's thoughts on Tiger Woods coming back from knee surgery in the WGC Match Play Championships starting Wednesday -

He's not here to test his knee, he's here to win this thing. NBC's Miller on Tiger

It was a golf tournament and now it's a happening. NBC's Tommy Roy on Tiger's return

NEW YORK - Feb. 24, 2009
- Tiger Woods returns to action against the best players in the world at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship from the Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Tucson, Ariz. NBC will broadcast live high-definition coverage of the semifinals, Saturday, 2-6 p.m. ET, and the 36-hole final on Sunday, 2-6 p.m. ET.

The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is contested over five days in a unique match play format. In addition to the weekend coverage on NBC, NBC will produce The Golf Channel's coverage Wednesday-Friday and Saturday and Sunday morning, more than 27 hours in total. The 64-player field, in which players compete head-to-head in an NCAA tournament style bracket, includes most of the world's best players. Among the competitors challenging Woods are Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Anthony Kim and Sergio Garcia.

Host Dan Hicks and lead analyst Johnny Miller, in their 10th season together, will anchor the coverage from the 18th hole tower. They are joined by on-course reporters Roger Maltbie and Mark Rolfing; tower reporter Gary Koch; and interviewer/essayist Jimmy Roberts. NBC's golf coverage is produced by Tommy Roy, among the most nominated persons in the history of the Sports Emmys.

ROY ON TIGER'S RETURN: "What a time to get started up again with the PGA Tour with Tiger Woods coming back. It has turned into a happening. It was a golf tournament and now it's a happening, and quite frankly a news story."

HICKS ON TIGER'S RETURN: "There couldn't be a better scenario to start with. Outside of a major championship, this tournament has the chance to really build up into something that's special. It has that kind of hype, that kind of feel. It will keep building, if Tiger continues to win and we get him another weekend on NBC. From an entertainment standpoint, with Tiger back in the field and Phil Mickelson winning in L.A., if they could get on some sort of collision course and meet in the semifinals on NBC on Saturday, it would be just an unbelievable way to start off the year."

MILLER ON TIGER'S RETURN: "He would not be coming back if he didn't think he was pretty darn good right now. He would not do it. I thought this was the perfect spot for him. He's probably thinking, hey I can come back for the Match Play and scare these guys a little bit. He's not here to test his knee, he's here to win this thing.

"If I was Tiger and I didn't want to tee it up to answer to a score and I was feeling pretty good, I'd try the Match Play because he can make a couple of doubles and still win your matches as long as you make a bunch birdies. This is a really good way to wet your feet if you're Tiger Woods because you're not playing medal play and you're not answering to a score, plus he has the intimidation factor going for him. It will be tough for Tiger to get to the weekend, but knowing Tiger he's probably ready, far more than ready."

MALTBIE ON TIGER'S RETURN: "Let's be honest, the golf world needs Tiger. They have missed Tiger terribly. Not only has he been gone the last eight months, but he's only played six tournaments in the last 14 months. It is great to have him back. I thought the tour and golf in general was very fortunate last year in that in his absence, we had Padraig Harrington win a couple of majors, we saw Camilo Villegas step up at the end of the year in the FedEx Cup playoffs, we saw a wonderful Ryder Cup. All that was terrific, but I really have felt that golf
was a little flat starting this year. Phil winning last weekend was a big boost and now with Tiger's return I just feel like the golf season is getting started here, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. It's pretty exciting stuff."

MILLER ON DIFFICULTY IN RETURNING FROM KNEE SURGERY: "He's like Superman so I don't know if he counts. Tiger's got so much muscle in his body that he's able to generate enough energy and power with less torque on different parts of his body including his knees."

MILLER ON IF TIGER IS THE BEST GOLFER EVER: "I think every 10 or 20 years, you've got a player or two who is given the classification of a Bobby Jones or a Jack Nicklaus or a Ben Hogan or a Sam Snead or an Arnold Palmer. Tiger's already passed everybody. A lot of people say that he's going to have to break the major record to pass Jack but I think if people look at the scores he shoots and everything, I think he's the best that every lived right now. Tiger, right now, I would give him the edge over Jack just barely, but major championships, you've got to give it to Nicklaus. As far as best player ever, Jack never won a U.S. Open by 15 shots or a Masters by 12. Tiger's done some stuff that's just been crazy good."

MALTBIE ON HOW THE INJURY COULD AFFECT TIGER'S GAME: "What's going to be interesting from a technical or golf standpoint is this now stronger and better leg and knee and how he'll react to it. He has a different leg to work with. Does he have to shake off some of the things he was doing before to accommodate that leg now on to a healthier leg? Those are the kind of things that we just don't know and frankly I don't think Tiger probably knows right now. It's one thing to play golf at home and practice, to always be able to throw down another ball, hit a second ball, do whatever. It's another thing to do it in competition."

MILLER ON INJURY IMPROVING TIGER'S GAME: "I think the one thing he learned dealing with the leg is that he ended up being a better iron player than he was before. He slowed down his swing. He took more club. He had more rhythm. He smoothed it a lot more."

MILLER ON THE STATE OF GOLF: "You have some awfully good things happening in golf. You have Camilo Villegas being a star and he's very appealing to both guys and girls so to speak. You have Anthony Kim coming up, and you've got Mickelson still and Vijay [Singh]. There's actually a pretty good supporting cast. Golf is bigger than any one player, I can tell you that."

MILLER ON MICKELSON: "You're going to have to hit great irons or be really good around the greens, which will obviously help a guy like Mickelson. If you look at Mickelson right now, he's going to have a lot of good feeling. He loves Tucson and the area. He's going to be hard to beat."

"Everybody's kind of waiting for Anthony Kim to explode. I don't expect Kim to have any kind of fall off. It's going to be great to see Anthony Kim in a match play format. Some guys kind of wilt in the match play environment, in the limelight, and some guys will rise to the occasion when it's just me and you. I think Anthony Kim is one of those me guys, where if it's just two guys playing, he wants to make sure he's the guy that stands out, he's the guy that people come to watch. Match Play, it's more of a single stage for two guys. One guy is going to shine and one guy is not. Anthony Kim has that kind of personality that just I think thrives in the match play."

MILLER: "Perfectly said. The will the win is a lot. Some guys just won't let themselves lose, like Nicklaus was that way. You're not going to get me, I don't care what happens."

ROY ON IF TIGER DOESN'T MAKE IT TO THE WEEKEND: "We will have to deal with
showing what happened to Tiger because this has gone from being a golf tournament to a news event, and there's a lot of people who aren't going to be able to watch his play on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday if he makes it that far. People tuning in on the weekend, we'll document whether he's out or he's still alive. We'll make sure they have a chance to see that. There's a definite buzz about golf and about this event that we know will carry over to the weekend."

Plus, here's news on what the Mets David Wright will say on the WBC Roster Special tonight -

Mets Third Baseman and World Baseball Classic USA team member David Wright was interviewed as part of MLB Network’s World Baseball Classic Roster Special, which will air at 6:00 p.m. ET tonight. Wright talked with Victor Rojas and Harold Reynolds about gearing up to play in his first World Baseball Classic, which begins March 5. MLB Network will televise 16 World Baseball Classic games along with a nightly studio show titled World Baseball Classic Tonight, dedicated to the world’s premier international baseball tournament.

Highlights of the interview include:

"I can't wait. I got down here to Spring Training a little bit early to try to get started a little bit earlier and try to face some live pitching to get ready because when you put that USA across your chest, to me, there is really no bigger honor as a baseball player to go represent your country. Obviously, wearing the uniform is something I am going to be very proud of and looking over to your left seeing Derek Jeter and some of those guys who are teammates just sitting around and talking baseball. I'm going to soak it up, try to learn as much as possible, and hopefully come away with a few wins.”

"I think it will help with the development of getting ready for the regular season because you’re talking about playing in meaningful games, big at bats, trying to get runners over, get runners in. We were talking today with our manager Jerry Manuel and he likes the idea of a lot of us going to play in the classic because it puts us in those real life game situations where every at bat counts, being unselfish, trying to do things for the good of the team, and hopefully that will put us in a position where we are ready come first week of April."

"Well hopefully for the few weeks together we'll have a little truce (smiling). We'll stop the war of words for at least a couple of weeks and as much as we obviously don't get along with them all that well we respect them and we congratulate them obviously on their championship and I think we can learn a lot from a team like that."

“Oh I told Jose [Reyes] 'I'm coming in hard and you better watch out!' (laughs and smiles) because if I get a chance to break up a double play I'm coming in hard."

"We've got a lot of guys on the team this year that participated in that first World Baseball Classic and obviously they are let down so we're going to look to those guys to lead the team and prepare us for the expectations going into it because it’s a different kind of format. It's a different style of play where obviously every game is huge and one game you could be going home so we're going to look to those guys to kind of lead us and hopefully the young guys can provide some energy.”

"Maybe a World Series. How about both of them? I'll take that one (smiles and laughs). We'll put both of them up there on kind of the same level."

McDreamy to quit Seattle Grace!

Oh yes, it's true! There's word of another doctor leaving Seattle Grace Hospital! Derek, a/k/a "McDreamy, a/k/a my wife's boyfriend is going to quit Seattle Grace Hospital.

Now, don't get your panties in a bunch! He's NOT leaving the show, as our good friends at Grey's Anatomy News and E!Online tell us. It's just part of the storyline as are more good elevator scenes!

You can all resume breathing now!

ECW SPOILERS for tonights' show

Yes, I foreworn you that if you DON'T want to know what happens on tonight's edition of ECW on the SciFi Network at 9pm, then look away now! Results, courtesy of 411 Wrestling are after the logo...

Mark Henry beats up DJ Gabriel.

Tyson Kidd dusts a jobber.

Tommy Dreamer beat Paul Burchill with help from the Boogeyman.

ECW Champion Jack Swagger defends his title against Christian.

I'll be interested to see how they put over the Swagger match as there has to be some intrigue as Christian just came back and why have him lose so quickly without some drama and some hype with the return. Plus, who else are you going to have Jack Swagger face at Wrestlemania 25? Maybe, it's just a quick stop in ECW before moving on into the Hardy feud, which would be a better use of his time.

NBA's Best Shot of the Year, The Sweet Smell of Jenna Jameson and Moore to Celtics

It's Tuesday morning here in Rhode Island. It's still cold. My daughter and I are still not feeling well and the economy still sucks. That should tell you about my outlook of the world today. But, I'll still provide you the stuff you need to get through the day. Well, at least as much as I can get to before real life intervenes.

* - If you missed it last night, the Nets and Sixers played a beauty with Devin Herris providing the NBA Shot of the Year for the win for NJ. Check it out from the YES Network and the NBA -

* - My favorite porn star Jenna Jameson is out hawking a new perfume called "Heartbreaker." I could think of a few other names for a Jenna scent, but I leave that to your vivid imaginations.

* - #1 Pitt invades the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence tonight to face the Friars. If PC is too make the NCAA Tournament, here's a perfect spot to cement it with a huge upset. To do it, they'll have to play some defense unlike their effort over the weekend in a thrashing by Notre Dame. The Projo's Kevin McNamara has a preview.

* - Are you excited about Mikki Moore Celtics fans? (Boston Herald) I think I'd be more excited about Mandy Moore!

* - More great stuff from Chris Jericho last night on RAW as he takes on another legend. This time, it's Ricky Steamboat trying to straighten out the Superstar of the Year for 2008. I'm expecting Stone Cold Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan to make their appearance on RAW as well as we get closer to Wrestlemania 25. Here it is for you from You Tube, the USA Network and the WWE -

That'll do it for now. Coming up later, we'll tell you who's going to win tonight's ECW Title Match between Jack Swagger and Christian plus news of "McDreamy" quitting Seattle Grace.

A Legend retires - Ghiorse signing off

A Weather Legend in Southern New England is turning in his meterological magic after 43 years as John Ghiorse retires after 43 years on air. His last day will be Friday, according to the Projo.

I grew up watching Ghiorse's forecasts on WJAR, the NBC affiliate in Providence, Rhode Island, hoping each winter day for a snow day. Ghiorse left for a big-time contract when WLNE came calling in 1983 in an attempt to grab ratings. It failed and Ghiorse eventually went back to his old stomping grounds at WJAR.

Check out some great old footage and a tribute to John on channel 10's website.

The Ghiorse Factor, a staple of all his forecasts grading the day on a 1-to-10 basis each day, on his career is a 10 and a daily look at what the weather will be look will be missed.

Barkley to jail

Charles Barkley will be doing time for his New Year's Eve DUI in Arizona. Barkley will serve five days in jail beginning March 21st, according to The sentence is for 10 days of jail time, but five would be suspended if Barkley completes a court appointed alcohol program.

Barkley pleaded guilty in court on Monday and will also pay $2,000 in fines in addition to having an anti-lock ignition device put on his car.

Turner Sports Inks MLB Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley to Multi-Year Extension

Analyst returns to TBS for MLB All-Star Selection Show as well as Regular and Postseason coverage

TBS announced today that they have signed MLB Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley to a multi-year extension to serve as an analyst for the network’s exclusive coverage of the MLB All-Star Selection Show and the MLB Postseason, including the League Division Series (LDS) and the League Championship Series (LCS). Eckersley will also appear as a game analyst for select Sunday MLB on TBS regular season match-ups. A six-time MLB All-Star, Eckersley provided his unique brand of analysis to the Inside MLB studio show alongside two-time Emmy® Award-winning studio host Ernie Johnson during the 2008 MLB Postseason.

Eckersley will appear in studio for TBS’ exclusive coverage of the 2009 MLB All-Star Selection Show, the 2009 American and National League Division Series (ALDS & NLDS) and the 2009 National League Championship Series (NLCS). He will also serve as a game analyst for select TBS’ regular season telecasts.

“We are very excited to continue our relationship with Dennis as one of our studio analysts,” said Jeff Behnke, SVP and executive producer for Turner Sports. “We look forward to his distinctive style of breaking down the game and providing fans across the country with his unique perspective and personality.”

“I'm thrilled to return to TBS for their MLB coverage,” said Eckersley. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them this past season. The show is a great fit with my personality and I'm looking forward to the start of the MLB season.”

Eckersley, the 1992 AL Cy Young award and MVP winner, enjoyed success as both a starter and reliever and is one of only two pitchers to have both a 20-win season (1978) and a 50-save season (1992) in a career. Affectionately known as “Eck,” the pitcher played 24 years in the big leagues, winning the World Series with the Oakland Athletics in 1989. Eckersley also serves as a studio analyst for Red Sox games on New England Sports Network (NESN).

This is what makes Tony Kornheiser entertaining

OK, I'll admit it. I am not and never have been a fan of ESPN's Tony Kornheiser in the Monday Night Football booth. I AM however a fan of his work with Michael Wilbon on PTI and today on The Sports Reporters on ESPN, he gave me another reason why I like him in this format as opposed to the booth -

Very funny and very on point! Kornheiser at his best! Loved it.

If only we can get this tonight from Mickey Rourke at the Oscars...

Here's last night's acceptance speech at the Independent Spirit Awards on IFC as Mickey Rourke wins the Best Actor Award. Great stuff filled with profanity and a tribute to Eric Roberts!

Thanks to Perez Hilton, IFC and You Tube!

Jim Calhoun blasts the local media over salary

It may be a dreary, rainy Sunday here in the Northeast, but UConn head coach stokes the fires with another great tirade against the media. This time, he's absolutely right. Local yocal Ken Krayeske tries to take Calhoun to task for his big salary while being a state employee. Calhoun, correctly calls him out on just how much his Huskies bring to the state. Check it out with thanks to our friends at SportsbyBrooks for the link -

It's not quite like the Ryan Gomes tirade, but it's good. Speaking of the Ryan Gomes tirade, here it is and be forewarned about the profanity -

Classic indeed!

In surprising news from Kingston today, URI head football coach Darren Rizzi resigns from the school to move on to be an assistant on Tony Sporano's staff with the Miami Dolphins. The move's made official on the school's website today.

Rizzi's resignation becomes effective Tuesday, according to the school.

The Oscar Winners are....

Well, if you don't want to watch the Oscars Sunday night on ABC, TMZ reports there may be a list of winners out there on the net. Here's said list, although Oscar officials say it's not real.

Hmmmm, Rourke, Winslet and Slumdog Millionaire as winners? Looks good to me!

We'll wait and see.

The Friday Feel-Good - The Trifecta Edition

Today, we expand "The Friday Feel-Good" to a three-part edition. That should really make you feel good today!

First, a couple of reasons to feel good that you're not Alex Rodriguez -

* - ESPN reports that the "Boli" that A-Rod told us that he got over the counter is in fact illegal in the Dominican Republic. There goes another lie!

* - The man who trained A-Rod, Angel Presinal is known for using steroids as a trainer and banned by every team in the bigs. Presinal, according to today's NY Daily News, accompanied him every day of the monster 2007 MVP season in which A-Rod has said he did not use steroids. Unfortunately, Presinal also trained David Ortiz, Vladimir Guerrerro and other big name stars. So, this one's not going away anytime soon.

Part two gives us Eliza Dushku, who's on TV tonight at 9pm on FOX series "Dollhouse."

Finally, we end with one of my favorite bands, The Fray. They've quietly carved out a nice little niche for themselves these days. When you hear there songs, you can help but picture it in a tv show or movie. This one's their new one, "You Found Me" from You Tube. First, we get the video from "Lost" below and here you get the offical music video -

We hope that makes you feel better! Enjoy!

Afternoon update - Garnett out for rest of trip; Stoudemire has eye surgery, NKOTB for the wife!

Some news to get you through the final hours of work for the Friday rush to the weekend -

* - Kevin Garnett will miss the remainder of the road trip for the Celtics according to

* - The C's won't have to face Amare Stoudemire Sunday in Phoenix. He may miss the remainder of the season after having eye surgery. (ESPN)

* - The Canadiens are being investigated for ties with organized crime. TSN has more from Canada.

* - I only post this for my wife and all of her friends who are avid New Kids on the Block fans. NKOTB was on NBC's Today Show this morning. I put this up so my wife can watch it while she's at work -

* - Perez Hilton (via TMZ) has the disturbing photo of Rihanna from the police report and the alleged assault by Chris Brown as well an update from her father. It is a very sad situation.

* - Just in case you were wondering, no we didn't stay up to watch the "Private Practice" portion of the ABC crossover event. "Grey's Anatomy" was very good but once Addison left Seattle Grace, I left with her and didn't head back to LA. Sorry ABC!

Back with more later including the "Friday Feel-Good."
