No Sox and Yanks tonight, so if you get bored with MNF: Titans/Saints, it's a steel cage match between Triple H and Carlito on Spike TV at 9pm and the season premiere of Heroes on NBC 10.

5:28pm Alas, since John in North Providence, no dumping incidents in the past 10 minutes! But, stay tuned!

5:57pm - Extra Point Show is up next: Logan Mankins is the guest. Also, it looks like the tiebreaker between the Indians and Angels would be better winning percentage in the division since they tied head to head, 5-5.

Confirmed by MLB Public Relations, Red Sox would win a 3-way tiebreaker between themselves, the Indians and Angels for the top seed in the AL due to a better combined record against both opponents. Should the Angels and Indians tie for the top seed, the Indians would win with a better division record since they tied the season series, 5-5. Individually, against the Angels or Indians, the Red Sox win with a better head to head record.

6:24pm Pats OL Logan Mankins joins the Beat!

Saturday, September 22

Saturday snacks:

It's an early start to Saturday as it's 8:06am and Track Time is on the Score! It's also a very good start to Saturday as Josh Beckett has breathed some life back into Red Sox nation with his 20th win last night in Tampa, an 8-1 victory over the Devil Dogs. Big Papi, David Ortiz makes a statement by putting himself back in the lineup against Scott Kazmir and getting a late home run to pace the offense. Ortiz had been scheduled to take the day off with the lefty going, but told manager Terry Francona he needed to be in the line-up with Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis still ailing.

Now, what makes it a better Saturday morning is the fact that the Blue Jays, despite blowing a 4-0 ninth inning lead here on the Score Friday night, defeated the Yankees 5-4 in 14 innings. So, the AL East standings have the Sox 2.5 up on NY. For the wild card, Yanks are now 4.5 ahead of the Tigers, who came from behind to top the Royals 5-4. Sox magic number to clinch the playoffs is at two and a berth in the postseason could be ours today with a Boston win and a Detroit loss.

Onto some football, here are my picks for the weekend:
Pats -16.5 vs. Bills
Texans +6 vs. Indy
Bears -3 vs. Cowboys
Jets -3 vs. Dolphins
49ers +9 at Steelers

TV I already like:
Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nitemares - Wednesday at 9pm on Fox
Private Practice Wednesday at 9pm on ABC (this will get Tivo'd) because Kate Walsh is hot!

and so is Sara Evans!

Finally, before I get on outta's the day that little Abbie, my 4-month old daughter will get to try cereal for the very first time! Wish us luck!

I'm back

Alright, I know I haven't been here in a very long time, but time to forget the past and move forward. It's playoff time for the hometown nine, in my case the Red Sox, and time to set the playoff roster. Here it goes:

Pitchers (11)
Josh Beckett
Dice-K Matsuzaka
Curt Schilling
Tim Wakefield
Jonathan Papelbon
Mike Timlin
Hideki Okajima
Javier Lopez
Clay Buchholz
Julian Tavarez
Manny Delcarmen

Catchers (2)
Jason Veritek
Doug Mirabelli (Kevin Cash if Mirabelli still injured)

Infielders (6)
Kevin Youkilis
Dustin Pedroia
Julio Lugo
Mike Lowell
Alex Cora
Eric Hinske

Outfielders (5)
Manny Ramirez
Coco Crisp
JD Drew
Jacoby Ellsbury
Bobby Kielty

DH (1)
David Ortiz

Yes, that's right, no Eric Gagne on my roster. He can't be counted on in the clutch as Tuesday night in Toronto proved beyond a shadow of a doubt. The one wild card in this roster is Jon Lester. Now, should the Sox pull Cleveland in the first round, do not put it past the brass in Boston to let Lester try and repeat his comeback in Cleveland against some tough Indian lefties like Travis Hafner, Grady Sizemore, Kenny Lofton and Trot Nixon. After all, it's not like Dice-K's setting the world on fire these days, right!

As for that aforementioned blowup in Blue Jays-land Tuesday night. I have one word for Terry Francona and the Sox: URGENCY! If you want to win the game, have Jonathan Papelbon up in the bullpen once Gagne puts one runner on base. To sit there and let Gagne try to get out of the inning with no regard to the outcome of the game sends a disturbing message to the team and the fans of Red Sox nation. If you continue to not take care of the business right in front of you, it may won't matter what's left in two weeks. It matters little if you win the division or get in as the wild card, you're team is playing well, Terry. It's time to recognize that and put the emphasis on getting a victory today. So, take it away Clay "can i be Johnny Vander Meer" Buchholz.

Don't forget, coming up on the Sportsbeat on Thursday, it's Jon Heyman from at 4:30pm, Coco Crisp at 5pm, John Clayton from ESPN at 5:25pm and Chris Kelsay from the Buffalo Bills at 6pm. Listen online at
